Chris Mcmahon

About 5 years ago, Chris McMahon, head coach for Saydel High school boys basketball team read about an opening for the coaching job for varsity basketball at TRHS. He thought to himself,
"I would love to coach at roosevelt, I've got a good resume, and its my home school". He is now working his 4th year at TRHS.

Chris McMahon just finished his fourth season as head coach of the Roosevelt Basketball.

Both of McMahons parents were teachers and his dad was a football coach aswell. McMahon explained that his parents were the main reason he had decided to become a coach and teacher.

"Coaching and teaching came natural for me'. Said Mcmahon. ' my parents really rubbed off on me".

When coaching McMahon doesn't just concentrate on teaching the game of basketball. McMahon tries his best to be a positive role model for the boys.

McMahon tries to incorperate as much team bonding time as he can. Spending countless hours trying to create a family type environment in the team.

McMahon loves the game and tries his best to share that with his players. He also teaches them about life and becoming better men.

"I love coaching. I get to teach young men to become better men, I get to do it everyday. Thats what makes it perfect for me" says McMahon.

Among his least favorite thing about coaching is having to talk too much at the end of the season banquet.

Mcmahon believes it should be more about the boys and not so much about the coaches.

The thing he dislikes the most is cutting players during tryouts.

"All the boys that tryout work their tails off. Unfortunatley i can only take 16 on my roster". SAid McMahon.

McMahon's favorite moment throughout his 12 years as a coach was making it to state this year for the 2012-2013 season.

It was especially sweet for him because he got to do it coaching his home team.

He also said it was special because he got to do it with a group of young men who are seniors this year, and have been with him since he started coaching four years ago when they were freshman.

McMahon is pleased with how he has done as a coach and cant wait for next season to do even better.
